How to Measure a Bottle + Label Size Calculator
If you're uncertain about the correct way to measure a bottle or container, you've found the perfect resource. Ensuring that the label size is suitable for your bottle, artwork, and budget is a crucial step when ordering custom labels. Explore our helpful guidelines for measuring various bottle types and utilize our label size calculator to discover the ideal label dimensions.
Measure the Diameter
To determine the width of your label, follow these simple steps. Using a flat ruler, measure the diameter of the bottle by measuring across the bottom face from one side to the other. Multiply this diameter by pi (approximately 3.14), and the resulting number will give you the circumference, which corresponds to the width of your label.
Measure the Height
To determine the height of your label, measure the distance between the curved surfaces of the bottle. This measurement corresponds to the height of the flat surface where the label will be placed.
We recommend subtracting approximately 0.2-0.5 of an inch from the width and 0.2-0.5 of an inch from the height of your label. This adjustment creates a small gap between the label ends when applied to the bottle. It allows for easier alignment, particularly if the application is done manually, and prevents the label from being too tall for the bottle. However, if you prefer the label ends to overlap, simply add 1/4th of an inch to the width.
Helpful tip! In case you don't have a measuring tape on hand, you can utilize a sheet of paper. Wrap the paper around the bottle and make a mark where it overlaps using a pencil. Then, use a ruler to measure the distance between the end of the paper and the mark. This measurement will provide you with the width of the label.
